When I first decided to replace my old computer, my basic reason then was that I couldn’t put up with how slow it was performing, and I blamed the fact that it was a very old computer already. After some months of using my new computer, I started to have the same problems I used to have. I was surprised and very disappointed of course, and I searched for all the information that can help me fix my slow computer.

Here are some of the easiest ways to repair a very slow computer.

1.   It is important that you first get rid of spyware from your system. These are the programs that can surely cause the slowdown in your computer.

3.   It also helped a lot in my efforts to fix my slow computer that I changed some of the settings in the Internet Explorer. What I had to do was block the pop ups, as they are also known to cause the piling up of unnecessary data, leading to a slower computer performance.

4.   Another important thing to do is to remove the programs in your computer that are not necessary in the startup. You mnay not be aware of this, but once the Windows starts up, some programs automatically turn on and run in the background, causing startup delays and slowdown. In order to avoid this from happening, what you can do is to disable some of the programs in the startup that you do not need.

5.   Double check to see if your computer has an active Firewall. Firewall is a kind of hardware and software solution that implements security policies in your computer. To put it simply, it acts like a security guard that would only allow an authorized person to access some restricted parts of a building. This will help you computer avoid unnecessary elements entering it.

6.   The computer’s registry should also be checked regularly. The registry is the core of the operating system, and it is the one that can directly affect the speed of the computer functions. But every time a program is run on the computer, the registry is used, and so the more you use the computer, the more likely it is for the registry to accumulate excessive data, which can make it corrupted. It is for this reason that a regular maintenance of the registry be done. There are many registry repair software that you can use to detect and remove all the junk filling the registry.

7.   Another step that I found very useful in trying to fix my slow computer was defragging the hard drive. As you may know some of the data files that you store on your PC get lost and placed somewhere they shouldn’t be. As a result, it is harder to locate them, and the computer takes more time to find them. Defragmenting the hard disk will keep all the data files organized.
